At 05.15 am we travel to San Rafael. From San Carlos de Bolivar to the fist bivouac in San Rafael it’s about 745 kms to drive. On board of the Ford Pickup are

Gaston Pando (pilot and owner of the team), Andres (mechanic), Mikel (mechanic), Fernando (manager of the team).

In the Toyota Hilux from Ines Estrebou I find my place to travel. Ines is the mother from Gaston and also an experienced rally pilot and she has had a lot of success also in the Opel Corsa trophy in Argentina.

The trip seems to be short. 13.30 pm we are in the bivouac and we get our place to install us. The bivouac is in the center of the town and a congress centre with a huge surrounding. To install the tents we do in very short time. I know this procedure already from my assistant time during the Dakar 2015 We are a good team and after a short work we can get our lunch. The memebers of the team from Leandro Creatore are not only friends of the Holando Rally Team, they have already prepared the lunch.

The rest of the day we spend laughing and with good talks. We are looking forward to tomorrow and the tension grows from minute to minute.

Temperatures during the day are nice, but as soon as the sun sets, it’s getting colder and colder. Argentine winter means, that sunrise is at about 07.30 am and sun set at 17.30 pm. Short days and long cold nights.

In the congress centre there are good and clean bathrooms, but the showers are not yet installed. So without having a shower, we are going to install our beds, put a heater in function and quickly I get in my sleeping bag.
