Piloten fahren an mir vorbei, Motorräder, Quads ...

Now it’s the last time and I’m standing at the big arc and I see as the clock counts from 20 seconds to zero. It’s always a special moment.

Of course I’m happy and looking forward to the start. But if you are asking me what kind of sensation I do have, I can only describe it as follows.

In the moment I go with my quad to the start, I always check, whether the Ico is at 000, the GPS is on, the roadbook is on the first picture and if the drinking hose is easy to grap.

Then one person of the organisation is coming and checks the different equipment, too. They put my yellow stamp card in the jacket and to check off  my name on the list. Now I have to roll on to the zone, where no supporter is allowed to come to touch anything on my quad or on me. My look is now fixed on the starter. He gives sign to the next pilot to roll to the arc. His body language is very easy to understand. I always know when it’s my turn.

Pilots come along, motorbike and quads who starts before me. In the time I’m waiting, I have no thoughts in my head. I’m just concentrated to roll forward to the clock. I do not think about whether I have forgot something or if my quad is in perfect conditions. I’m sure, that everything is okay.

Then I’m standing in front of the clock. The starter pushes the button and the 20 seconds count down. At that time. I put in first gear and have my right foot on the break. I look only to the clock. I do not see who is on the border of the street, how many people, who is going to take pictures. I do not hear other noises than the noise of my engine. I’m all quiet. In this moment, there is no nervousness, no thoughts what will be. I’m just concentrated on one point, to have an optimal start.

5 seconds to 0 and there are little red points under the number. When I see 1 I let go the break and the journey starts. The best moment is, if the vehicule rolls when the number 1 disappears and the 0 comes up. Now while I speed up I check the road book and memorize the first picture. Race is started and I concentrate on the road and the navigation.

Now I have a look also at the border of the road, where many people are standing and sometimes very near in dangerous places.
